Systems CFO Leadership Award Anna DeJesus Chief Financial Officer Family & Children’s Service of Monmouth County “Our programs are tightly linked to our agency’s mission to provide compassionate care, intervention, and education to support people during challenging times in their lives. … As the needs of the community have changed, so have our programs, addressing issues from home care and respite services, to childhood literacy and homelessness prevention. With limited funds, we might be expected to pull back and do the best we can on existing programs, but we saw new needs. Four years ago, in response to the alarming growth in childhood obesity, we launched Healthy Buddies, an in-school health and nutrition program that pairs older adults with students in the classroom. More recently, we initiated a program to help seniors meet the escalating costs of their long-term care. In addition, we’ve seen a tremendous increase in demand for our existing programs. …For this agency, innovation has been the catalyst to growth. By changing the efficiency and impact of our programs, we have qualified for new grants and attracted new funding. The finance department carefully examines all operating costs, streamlining expenses and ensuring that revenue is realized in a timely fashion. This helps produce a cash reserve, which allows us to grow existing programs and expand into new areas.”
